Orange Chocolate Chip Cookies that taste just like an Orange Milano? Yes, please! These chocolate orange cookies are easy and delicious—perfect for your Christmas cookie exchange, holiday parties, and fun baking.

These are officially my new favorite cookies!  They are one of the best cookies I’ve ever eaten!  These taste just like a Pepperidge Farm Orange Milano Cookie, but I think they are even better because they have all the flavors of that cookie but these are soft and chewy rather than crisp and crunchy.

I’ve been changing up flavors to all my favorite classics lately like Rice Krispie Treats and Oatmeal, so I decided it was time for a change with the Chocolate Chip Cookie.  So, I came up with this recipe.  I don’t know if there could be a better upgrade.  These cookies are a must-try!  Enjoy.

Orange Chocolate Chip Cookies – Milano style!

Orange Chocolate Chip Cookies

Instructions

Start by preheating your oven and stirring together your dry ingredients. Then use the paddle attachment with your stand mixer to cream together your unsalted butter and sugar until fluffy and smooth. Next, you’ll add in the eggs, fresh orange zest, and vanilla.

Carefully add your flour mixture and chocolate chunks to complete your cookie dough. I use a mix of milk and semi-sweet chocolate chips, but I might try some dark chocolate chunks next time. I like to use a cookie scoop to form the cookie dough balls, and you can chill the mixture or simply bake straight from room temperature.

Be sure to line your baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone mats, and bake according to the instructions. Immediately remove your orange chocolate cookies from your baking tray to a cooling rack.

PS Just be sure you don’t skip out on the orange extract or the orange zest, if you leave one out you won’t get that incredible, zesty orange flavor.  They are the key ingredients of this cookie recipe. If you like even more citrus flavor you can add a splash of orange juice.

You should be able to find the orange extract in the spice section of the grocer/supermarket, it’s about $3-$6 and well worth it.

You may also like to try Oranges and Cream Cookies, they taste just like an orange creamsicle and they are made from the same dough as these cookies.

I just made these cookies. The first time I make a recipe I follow it exactly. Except, of course, for the chocolate. I used a 72% dark chocolate chip, 1/2-1/2 with a plain ol’ dark chocolate chip. My orange essence was from Nielsen-Massey; an intensely orange extract that worked perfectly. My vanilla was from an Austin-area extract company, Adams Extract. My orange was from California. ha-ha! The best of the best.
The results were worth the bit of effort it took. The hardest part for me was keeping my oven at 350 degrees. Personally, I think these could be baked at 375 degrees for seven minutes or so, but you’d have to watch them closely. With an accurate thermometer and timer you could crank out enough for a party, in a hurry. Delicious!!

This recipe worked very well for us, but we couldn’t taste much of the orange flavor until we increased the extract to 1.5 tbsp and the zest to 2 tbsp. Thank you!

I have made this several time for my family, we always ate it right away. I have to make 120 cookies like such and would like to know if I can make the dough ahead of time & freeze?

Yes but if the dough is going into the oven cold (here after thawing in the fridge) I usually cut back on the flour just a little than the recipe says because cookies don’t spread as much with a cold dough but by reducing the flour it will make up for it.
Glad you’re family has enjoyed these!

Make a Christmas treat – use the chocolate orange that comes out at holiday time; yum is an under statement.
